The red gate is flipped up by hand to keep the rope out of the alloy cleat and prevent unintentional entry of the rope into the cleat.
The CL238 is a modified CL219; also available in Nylon as CL237 model. For larger size ropes, look at the Nylon CL239 or Aluminium CL240.
Clamcleat® rope cleats are not suitable for metal ropes.
