Backstay flicker - gives the mainsail space to move
This product is designed for use on fractional rigs only. The backstay flicker is fitted on top of the headbox, and used to pull the backstay clear of the sail when gibing and taking. The backstay flicker is NOT designed to carry the extra load from runners and checkstays - ONLY THE WEIGHT OF THE BACKSTAY.
Masthead equipment such as lights, antenna and wind indicators may have to be moved and refitted. Make sure that the backstay flicker has enough clearance to move freely under the instrument brackets etc, when the backstay flicker is bent into sailing position! The clearance must be at least 5 mm between the instrument bracket, wind indictor fittings and other mast head equipment and the backstay flicker.
Modification of the mast top equipments may be necessary to secure the clearance.
The backstay flicker comes complete with fasteners and backstay block.

Great Selden backstay flicker kit!
I purchased the smallest Selden backstay flicker during July 2019. Two parts were missing, but were quickly supplied after a single phone call to Selden. Installation instructions came in three languages and were easy to follow. Installed the flicker on a Capri 22. Before the flicker, the roach would brush aganst the backstay every time I tacked or jibed. I've sailed the boat twice since installing the flicker, in light air and heavy air, and I now have about 6 to 8 inches of clearance between the main's roach and the backstay, somewhat less when I tighten the backstay. I'm very happy with my purchase, and Vela has the lowest price available.

Back Stay Flicker
After considering several various options for a Back Stay Flicker on my Beneteau First 235 and a recent change to a Dyneema Back Stay, I decided to use the Selden product based on experience with Selden. This is a simple efficient design that makes attachment (included light weight cast brackets) and setup a breeze. It preforms flawlessly. The flexible piece used is not a typical batten but a tapered shaped stick with a UV coating. This makes the Flicker strong yet flexible enough to quickly and easily pick the Back Stay up, along with the 4:1 purchase system out of the way of the main leech. I considered fashioning a homemade version but I'm now very happy after making the decision to go with the Selden Flicker.
