- Where do you ship from?
From our headquarters in Texas, we ship any part you need to any destination you need us to. We carry over 29,000 different products from multiple manufacturers, domestic and from overseas, this means that in some occasions, we will not have what you order sitting on our shelf in Rockwall, Texas, but no need to panic! We have agreements with trusted distributors and manufacturers and partners and there is the possibility that your order may be shipped from more than one place (more than one package). Our goal is to deliver to you as fast as possible.
- Shipping options:
UPS and FedEx ground services will usually take between 2 to 6 business days if the parts ordered are in stock. We also offer UPS 3 Day Select, 2nd Day Air and Overnight shipping options. You will see these available when checking out.
UPS and FedEx only deliver on Saturdays when shipping overnight on Friday and may be subject to an additional charge.
Shipping expedited will must be placed before 11:30 am. CT. Otherwise the order will be processed the next business day.
Free shipping. Orders that apply for free shipping will be delivered between 6 and 10 business days. if you have a short deadline, please do not select Free shipping.
International orders. International customers will be responsible for any applicable import duties, fees, or taxes on the country of import.
For all the oversize items, such as whisker poles, spinnaker poles and tracks longer than 7ft. we must use a freight company. The estimated shipping rate for these types of items is $500 depending on destination. All orders for oversized items must be delivered to a commercial address; these can be the marina, yacht club or boat yard where your sailboat is located. Someone must receive and sign for the package at the moment of delivery
- How about those big items? Can they ship?
Absolutely yes. We ship everything from cotter pines to fully rigged boats.
- What is an oversize item?
Any box that is over 8 ft in length (96") is considered an oversize item by the regular / most common couriers: UPS, FedEx, DHL, US Postal Service.
Examples of oversize items are:
• Whisker and spinnaker poles.
• Booms, including Sunfish, ISCA, Laser, ILCA, J/24, J/22 booms and similar boats.
• Masts, even two section mast. (ILCA 6 and ILCA 4 mast are
allowed for a $50 surcharge).
• Large anchors (any anchor over 60 lbs.).
• Genoa or mainsail track sections that are over 6 ft long.
• Boats. Some boats can be shipped via LTL freight such as Sunfish, Laser, RS Aeros, Optimist, and similar.
- What is an overweight package?
Any shipment over 50 lbs starts to incur into surcharges by the regular couriers since it requires more effort and different equipment through transit to destination.
- How do you ship the big stuff, then?
LTL Freight (semi trucks, 18-wheeler, etc.) can deliver almost every oversize piece of hardware we carry. It is preferred to have a commercial address, such as you yacht club, marina, boat yard, freight forwarder (if you are on the islands or in other country). While the trucking companies may agree to deliver to residential areas, they will add a fee that may get up to an additional $300, therefore is preferred to use a commercial address for oversized packages deliveries.
Common rates for LTL freight rates on 2026 are:
- Long whisker poles (10 ft ot 17 ft): $580
- Small boats (Sunfish, Laser, Opti): $1,100
- Very heavy anchors or coiled wire (rigging): $380
Once the order is delivered by any of the freight carriers Vela Sailing Supply will not take responsibility on any lost, theft or damage due mishandling or misplacing.
